Cary Street Veterinary Hospital is a full service, AAHA accredited, Low Stress Handling and Fear Free certified small animal hospital whose mission is to provide the highest standard of veterinary care. Our team is committed to bringing you and your pet better health by practicing the science of veterinary medicine in a compassionate and knowledgeable manner. We strive to provide welcoming, informative, and supportive services to our clients, while maintaining a top quality working environment for our employees. Cary Street Veterinary Hospital offers the Richmond animal community medical, surgical, and dental veterinary care, as well as canine rehabilitation, acupuncture, and hospice and palliative care. Our in-house pharmacy, lab, and digital radiology enable you to make one stop for all of your pet's medical needs.
We are certified in Low Stress Handling and currently undergoing Fear Free Certification. Our goal is to make every visit an enjoyable one for your pet. Beula is a very nervous dog, but she did well having her nails trimmed while we distracted her with treats. We have a lot of tricks up our sleeves to make every visit with us a happy one!
Do you have a new puppy? We offer a series of three complimentary puppy orientation visits scheduled between your vaccine boosters! During orientation appointments, we won't do anything that your new dog would find scary. Instead, we will go over basic obedience, socialization, counterconditioning exercises, and puppy class information. These visits include lots of praise and treats - that way your puppy will build confidence and be comfortable coming to see us in the future. Our goal is to build a positive mental association with our office so your puppy loves us as much as we love him.

It’s summer! Time for BBQs, long hikes and refreshing water play! You and your pet enjoy this time of year. It’s filled with activity, fun and food!
There are a few things we have to talk about. First, is your pet eating the right food for their lifestyle? Meeting your pets’ nutritional needs is vital to their health and happiness. So before you take your big hike with Fido or start your movie marathon on the couch with Flu y, bring in your furry friend for their annual exam.
Second, if your pet is just 10% over their ideal body weight (that may mean 1 lb. for a 10 lb. cat), they are at risk for developing serious medical conditions. Who wants that for their buddy? No way, you say! Come in for a checkup and a pit stop at the scale!
Third, most “people” food is not good for pets, especially from the grill! For example, feeding your pet chicken bones can cause tooth fractures and tear up their digestive tract during digestion.
Make an appointment for your pet’s annual checkup today – we’ll give them a thorough physical exam from nose to tail! And we’ll talk about what they’re eating and if we have to make any changes.
Who loves your pet besides you? Us! Book your pet’s yearly exam today so we can keep your pet healthy and happy this summer!
